Accessibility

Mrs Botha acted as architect for the Association for Persons with Disabilities and the Deaf (APD) in the Free State since 2004. She received special training on accessibility in 2009. She completed a workshop presented by the National Council (NCPPDSA) as well as a Universal Auditors Workshop presented by IDCA Consultants. The principal of Universal Design is the key to accessibility. 

Buildings that were designed with accessibility in mind include: Hillandale Lifestyle Village - 146 living units including bowling clubhouse and green. Hillandale Rehabilitation hospital – 42 frail care units, 36 hospital beds, rehabilitation unit with indoor swimming pool. APD Free State - Disability Experience Tourism Route - new guest house, new coffee shop, new living quarters. Martie du Plessis School (school for kids with learning or physical disabilities) – new Catheter Clinic, new library, new classrooms, new Transcribing facility & ablution facilities.
